I was wondering how many people purchase their mounting stands vs. making it themself or having someone make one for them. Please participate in the poll. Thanks

I have both. Made a heavy duty one and bought 2 powder coated tubular ones for general work. Personally would buy them…my time is too valuable to be making stands.

Mine is simple . But it’s not going anywhere . My mannikin doesn’t run from me when I start . It only moves when needed . Semi hub 80 lbs . Welded a 4 x 14 x 3/8 steel plate on top . The rest is heavy gauge pipe . Cut a hole with cutting torch . Welded nut over hole . Welded steel rod on bolts . Ill add an elbow later to tilt mount forward or back .

Has anyone ever tried to incorporate a jack or something ofthat nature to make the up and down easier, I do alot of elk and it would be nice to not have to lift on them.

A pneumatic cylinder on the up and down would be helpful. I think it would be cheaper than hydrolic .

I have bought a couple mounting stands and had a couple made. I bought one last year that holds 4 deer and I use it only while painting. The top section of the stand rotates with just a gentle push to get to the next head. It allows me to stand in one spot and paint the same color on all 4 heads before switching to the next color. It saves an incredible amount of time for me.

Here’s a couple of the stands we have made through the years. First stand holds 6 mounts be it deer heads, fish, birds, etc. We have 2 of these that we put side by side & I can finish 12 items at a time. There is a steering wheel in the middle with a nut on a long threaded rod that when you spin the wheel it lowers or raises all the mounts. The base not shown is a heavy piece of steel plate & has castors so we can move it around. We have 2 other single stands that use the same size pipe pieces that screw to the back of the mounts.

The other stand we use for larger mounts like Elk, Cape Buffalo, etc. The base is a round flat steel plate used to cover manholes while the real one is being worked on, etc. As you see the stand has 2 lock down bolts & we occasionally will put 2 mounts on at a time especially for finishing.
