AS LONG AS YOU HAVE A GOOD PH, CAN YOU REUSE PICKLE BATH, OR SHOULD YOU MAKE A NEW PICKLE BATH FOR EACH DEER CAPE??

It’s been done, but for as cheap as you can make a pickle I would just make a new one

You can re-use it if you are sure of your solution, if you are running small volume it’s safer to dump it.

I have done both with great results. However, I prefer to use a clean one each time.

It may not be necessary on smaller game, but I tan them all from squirrels on up and make a new bath every time small or large. I just like a clean pickle.

Personally I just make a new batch each time because the mix gets so dirty from the skin from blood and dirt etc on the fir.  That is interesting Knob Creek.  From all my readings on tanning it sounded like I was the only one who tanned squirrel skins.  I would say we are most likely in the minority on that.

We probably are in the minority Vic, but there’s just something  about a good tanned hide to me.

I have tanned squirrels and dry preserved them. The out come is the same. After twenty years they have held up the same. I still tan them most of the time. All though it is not necessary or cheaper, it just feels like the good way to go.

I guess I should have added Tanglewood, I have no problem with the dry preserved process.
