Do you have to have the 10.00 lisc. to do your own taxidermy work or your family members if you are not charging them anything to do it? Got word of the local warden asking questions about me doing taxidermy, so trying to make sure i’m okay. I have never mounted anything for anyone else other than myself and only done a few skull mounts for my brother in laws, but charged them nothing for doing it. Im trying to teach myself and have done a couple deer, a few of my ducks , and my daughters Turkey and was told by the old Game Warden in my county that as long as I didnt charge anyone anything then I didn’t have to have the lisc. I can’t find any info on the taxidermy regulations in NC so I figured I would ask you guys.
thanks
As long as you don’t barter, trade or exchange money, you don’t need a license. But if you do something for someone else, you’ll need to keep a record of it since someone elses property is in your possesion. But hey, it’s only $10 BUCKS! Get the license are charge them for the materials at least.

Thanks Page,
I thought that was correct and the only reason I didn’t get the lisc was I don’t want the hassel of the warden while i’m trying to teach myself. If I ever decide to start a side business i will def. get that lisc. Name, address, and harvest id all I need for my records?
Josh, educate yourself on the laws and go ahead and get your license, it’s only $10 bucks and then there are no questions about the money issue.
As Page stated they can only do a records check legally, unless you give them permission. Now, if you act suspicious/nervous and deny him access to your freezer or storage areas they will most likely make your life miserable and keep a tight watch on you. Thats where the education comes in, if you know what/how to ask, and let them know that you are educated to the law, you will find that you know more about the taxidermy laws than they do.
The last time one checked me, I asked him so many questions he wanted to leave.:innocent: He called his superior 3 times to get answers to the questions I already knew the answers to. He knew that I had my stuff right.
As long as you are legal you have no worries.
Oh, and you are more than welcome to join and attend the NCTA convention. This is your official invitation.
