OfflineI hate to post this…but was forced to. Everyone needs to be aware and to stay away from Nature’s Art Taxidermy here in Montrose or dealing with him around the country. This guy moved here a short time ago from Texas. If you look up his name on the net (one thing I should have done before doing business with him) you will soon find that he is not spoken of highly on the taxidermy talk forums due to numerous shady deals around the country. He may be a good taxidermist but is a lousy business man. I gave this clown my Pope & Young black bear hide and $600 up front to complete a bear rug for me back in September, 2013. He came recommended by another taxi in the area who did not truly know him yet. In December of last year he texted me wanting another $300 to help him get some hides back from the tannery and he would call my $1200 bill paid in full. I almost fell for it and took $300 to his shop on West Main St. but soon found out it was now vacant and he never told me. Needless to say, I took the money back to the bank and that caused Mr. Gary Weir to get upset. So upset that he basically refused to complete my rug and I now have to take him to small claims court. This guy is a fraud and has been doing this to others in the Montrose area as well as Texas and around the country. He told me he wanted a “new start” in Montrose and this is what he does. I will continue to let everyone know about this guy as no one should have to go through this especially on a trophy bear. I’ll get another one this fall and will take it to a reputable taxidermist here in the area. PLEASE pass this around to others you know who may be looking for a taxidermist. This guy has lied over and over in texts and in person about what and how he was going to get this done. None of it is true and it only serves to buy him time. I am also trying to verify something else I heard through the Montrose County Jail. Please stay away from this business.
This post was also placed on my FB page at howlingcoyotearchery and on the Nature’s Art Taxidermy FB page and is already getting replies from others who are going through the same thing here in Colorado. You can verify some of this on taxidermy.net as well as on a Texas bow hunter forum. It is not hard to find. Weir has also scammed other taxi’s around the country on various hides. BE CAREFUL. I told him if he screwed me over, I would post everything I could and it did not seem to phase him so here it is. I have already contacted the BBB and the Colorado Attorney Generals office of Consumer Complaints. I will also contact the Colorado Secretary of State as his business is not registered here which means there is no doubt he is not paying taxes so I will notify the state and county tax departments as well. It is time to put a stop to him.

OfflineNo Problem. Name is Scott Johnston, owner of Howling Coyote Archery in Montrose, CO. Weir knows exactly who I am. Please check his FB page and see another customer who has posted to my review on what he is also going through. I have also been contacted by another business here in Montrose called Dermestid Services who was also scammed. I warned Gary over and over about what I would do. I have all his texts which shows how much he does not tell the truth and misleads over and over.
Hey Scott, thanks for posting your name here for everyone to see you are a real consumer, and after 2 hours of reading many different things about Mr. Weir, I can’t understand why he is still in business.
Do you know who he worked for in Texas or what his business name was there, as well as what town?
Have you tried just getting your bear skin back without asking about the money? That would be a good first step, then when/if you get it, go after the money.
Thanks for the warning I’m sure everyone here appreciates it.

OfflineMr. Price,
He had worked for Damuth Taxidermy in Brady, Texas and maybe others prior to moving up here to Colorado. So far, at least 3 other people up here have contacted me via FB or email saying they are in the same boat but out much larger sums of money. I did call him one last time on my way to the sheriff’s department and he did agree to meet me with my tanned hide. Another taxi up here heard what was going on and she contacted me to offer some help on getting my rug done. So a TON of Kudo’s to Cindy Flowers of Big Horn Taxidermy for stepping up. As the new season gets closer, I am going to post reminders for folks to stay away. Scott
Good deal Scott, glad you got your bear back, worst case write it off as a $600 learning experience, but maybe you can squeeze the money out of him also.
I also can say, I have had several transactions with Cindy Flowers (she is a member here on the forums) and have had zero problems, nothing but smooth deals.
