1- I had the best mount there, the judges don’t know what there doing.
2- So and so helped them mount that piece, that’s why they won. Go ahead and let so and so help them again, I should still win.
3- I can’t believe they won with this and that wrong with there mount. There is nothing wrong with mine.
4- The only way you can win with that judge, is you have to have taken one of there workshops.
5- The only reason they won, is because they have an illness and they felt sorry for them.
6- Well what did you expect, there friends with the judge.
7- This is one of the best ones I have herd: I know you have been to the judges home and called the judges, in other words” You Payed The Judges Off” you bought the show.
I have heard a lot of things sore losers have said over the past 30 years, but all of the one’s listed above I have herd one person say over the past five years. They say they are not a sore loser, what do you guys say. If you think you are so good that you can’t be beat, why are competing. Oh I forgot, it’s your ego.
If you are going to compete in taxidermy competitions you need to learn to except what the judge has to say and learn from it. Is the judge always right, no, they are human and make mistakes. If you disagree, protest and go through the proper way to do it. Don’t bad mouth the winner, judges and the show behind there back. Be a man or woman and say it to there face, not behind there back.
Sorry for the rant, but I have had about all I can stand from a few people. Luke 6:41 Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye.
Vince, I’m not sure what brought this back up, but Im glad you could use this forum to get it off your chest, and not call any names. They know who they are and that you are talking to them.
As most everyone knows, I have my share of enemies in this industry. I know the truth about my nay sayers, as well as you do yours, Vince.
Just remember, if everyone likes you and you have no enemies, you are not doing something right.
If anyone of my enemies read this and get their panties in a wad, just revert back to the first quote I have listed in my signature below this post.
I have never been to a competition but i’m going to try this year.My thing is this,If D.Price,Mr Vincent,Mr Herman or any other judge tells me what is wrong i’m going to take it as constructive criticism. You take Guy’s or Gals who have won World,State and other multiple blue ribbons they must know something and are doing it right. For me to enter competition it would be for (yes) a ribbon but for more of an anatomy deal.To learn from the best.If they are not mounting Deer or any other species as good as i have seen some on here no wander they have not won. This is how i am as a person,The more i’m criticized the harder i work at something.Like i said if deer or what ever is not being mounted like some on here,To whom it may concern,Take what a judge tells you and work harder study harder on reference. There are some deer on here i would love to have in my shop to study because they are awesome. So if you all see Honeybee man this year at competition give me the third degree and help me to become a better taxidermist.I know i have said alot but that is how i see it.Hope you all still Luv me(lol).

HB, I just want to clarify that I have not judged any competition. I was asked a couple years back by Greg Smith from Surry Community College, but politely turned it down as I felt I was not qualified to do what he was asking of me.
Just wanted to clear that up, so I would not be accused of misleading anyone in anyway.
#10…They only won because they used that judges form
I have been to a few competitions, and I was pretty shocked at how pissed people get (it’s kinda funny). I have definitely gotten upset with myself on some things, but have not come home a sore loser… I can’t wait to start on a new comp piece, I just need to learn to quit putting so much time in my dang bases/pedestals ( I still dont know how they affect my score)
to the readers of this post: do not let these remarks keep you from competing!!!!!. competitions are a great way to learn and better your skills and also build some great friendships!
honeybee man has the perfect attitude to compete, always get a critique. i don’t care if your are a master of master if the judge took time to judge the show the least you can do is give him 10 min of your time you might learn something. use your mistakes to fuel the fire for wins.
as for me personaly i had my best show ever in pa this year and i let some sore losers tarnish it for me. never again will i let this happen there is too much good at the shows to let a few people ruin it. sorry for rambling but i don’t want this thread to keep any newcomers from competing

Well said Chris. Competition is a great thing. I would not be where I am today without competing. Over the years I have learned so much from other competers and judges. I am just tired of a few people trashing others for there success. Work hard on yourself and try to always do your best.
I’ll share some wisdom that was passed down to me from a very seasoned and successful taxidermy competitor a couple of years ago just after I won my first BOC in Professional W/T.
The day after the show, Gene Smith told me, now you are gonna find out who your real friends are in this industry, because once you become a winner and a threat you will be looked upon differently.
At the time I didn’t think much about it, but he hit the nail on the head.
As a few years have passed since that day, and I have done a little more winning, I can sure tell I am treated differently than I once was. Not by all, but by many.
Jealousy is the devil:devil: and this industry is full of it…..and not just in the competition part of it.:(
Hey, don’t fall into the trap of their negatism. You guys, and gals have posted some great work on here. Ya’ll are also proactive ,positive people. It is easy to become one of them. Keep focused on the good things, good times together, and a bright future. Take what we all have and make a good thing, a very positive ,great thing. My thoughts this morning.

I needed to here that Tommy, thanks.
Well said D. This website is good positive and informative. My favorite saying ( it is what it is) also play’s a role in letting people know things when it’s time to. People treat me different now than they did one year ago. It happens. Part of competing. I compete with me . Try to learn more as I go. If I place third and gain knowledge I’ve won knowledge.
I encourage you new guy’s and girls who have been reluctant to compete. Go compete. You’ll be glad you did.

That is the samething Gene said to me about 7 months ago and in less than three months I had some so called friends one mainly that treated me in a way I would have never treated anyone. I let it worry me for a while because I really thought we were good friends but Jealously is a bad thing and has ruined alot of friendships!!! After this I made up my mind I will just keep doing my best and do what is right for me and my family and will not let something like this stop me from competing, There is just way to much to learn and that is what I want to do Learn all I can and one day feel like I will have a chance to be the taxidermist that Gene Smith, Vince Fleming, and Chris Barnhardt are and I am far from that right now!!!!
