Wanting to learn the trade.can anyone point me in the right direction.were i could get a good starter kit.i have skinned alot of small game and deer but have never tanned or mounted nothing.would love to learn.any help would be great and thank’s for reading.

order a catalogue or two from places like wasco or van dykes, they got a bunch of instructional books and videos that will help a ton

Jump in and hang on. Ask questions. Read everthing you can and just have fun and make it a learning experience.

thanks i have read alot and watched some videos going to try and mount my son’s first deer.but have to start some where.have had a bunch of taxidermy’s tell me that i can skin deer for them any time.so i say i think i have that part down.

If you really have a good taxidermist that will let you work around his shop and just help when he needs some help or even let you hang around and sweep the floor you should take advantage of it! You would be amazed what you could pick up just watching as you help around the shop. The payment for your help will be what you learn from the experience. Also check around your area for someone that is willing to give you a few short classes for a reasonable fee. One last thing, join your states Taxidermy Association and attend their meetings.
