I have a couple of questions just wondering what everyone’s opinion is on these 2 subject’s
1. Has getting a website improved your business?
2. Do yuo work at your home or do you have a location away from your house?

I’m trying to decide whether to get a website and just wanted your experience with getting a website and did you see a difference in your business.
Also I have a pretty nice place to work but it is a ways out of town, I know it might be better to be close to or in town but the overhead would be a killer, just curious what your thought’s are.
Thanks Cindy

#1 Yes if it is done nice and in good/professional manner.

#2 The store front is gonna cause you nothing but trouble with folks dropping in wanting to look and talk. Plus extra overhead.

I have been at the same place for almost 22 years, never had a sign put up and they find me if they need me. They will find you also if you put out the product they are looking for.

Just my opinion.

XX2 on that D, just do not give your customers your cell number. I just recently had to get a new phone number I got sick of the 9-10pm calls to get a progress report.

Well C flwrs you’ve ask a question that is going to generate as many different opinions as how much should I charge for a particular mount.
1. I do have a website and it more than pays for its self every year. If I only pick up 4 or 5 customers a year it is great! Another reason I like the website is that it gives me a place to send perspective customers when they call because I keep little to no finished work in my shop and I like it that way!!!!

2. My shop is in my back yard and I personally love it that way. I do have a sign in my front yard (and am actually having a new one made at this time). I am a little different I guess because most of the time my customers don’t bother me. In fact I like to have them come by from time to time. I really personally don’t have much problem with them calling either. Of course you will always have the occasional customer that gets on your nerves a little but to be honest, that is seldom. As D and Hackleback have already said, if you turn out good work the customers you want will find you. On the other hand, if you do cheap work you will have plenty of customers, probably more than you want and you will always have problems getting your money, work yourself to death and make very little money.

We started a website for Bluffcountry Woodworks roughly a year ago and it has definitely helped increase sales. Having a website can help maximize offline marketing efforts / budgets. Many businesses are offering products online. If they aren’t, they have their information on a website these days.

In the next few months our retail location will be selling taxidermy products and other custom woodwork. A brick and mortar store is just another way to reach out to customers. If it’s a busy location traffic-wise this can be good for your business.
