For working with details like duck bills and fish spots, yet still able to handle finishing a deer or mammal the best airbrush I have used is an Iwata HP-B Plus. It has it’s advantages over the Velocity. One thing I like about the HP-B Plus, is the smaller color cup. It doesn’t obstruct your view when doing fine details. It also wastes ZERO paint. I also like the chrome finish over the anodized finish of the Velocity. If you do any color mixing in the cup, which I often do, it is more difficult to see the paint color in the anodized brush. The Velocity is a little harder to clean than the HP-B Plus because of the machining of the inside of the cup. The HP-B Plus is the easiest brush to clean that I have ever used. It will paint pencil lines with no problem. The Velocity is cheaper, as are the parts should you need to replace any of them. (that is good, because the nozzle is so small that if you drop it you might not ever find it, lol) The Velocity is a very nice brush, perhaps the best brush you can buy in the $100 range. Either brush will work for you, good luck.
TAX, you are right about the cup on the Velocity, but the new one I just bought at Surry this year from Paul has been redesigned and has a much smaller cup.
Both brushes you mentioned have their advantages and disadvantages, but are very good brushes. You can’t go wrong with either one.
Not only does the HP-B Plus have a smaller cup, but it is set at an angle which really aids in cleaning IMO. You are right, both brushes are good. I haven’t found any disadvantages in the IWATA itself in design or function, but the cost of the brush, and even more so the cost of the replacement parts are a huge disadvantage. They are pricey.
You are not a dumb-dumb, a single action airbrush is just that, all you do is mash the trigger, the needle ande air presure determines the amount of paint released. On a double action you can mash the trigger and pull back on it to adjust the amount of paint released out og the brush. With a good DA airbrush you can paint a broad line to a pencil line and back all in the movement of you trigger finger….I hope this helps….DC

We are not gonna rip folks here for asking legitimate questions. And we are not gonna tell you to hit the search button either.
That was not a dumb question, if you don’t know, you don’t know. Right?
