OfflineHello all, I am fairly new to making European mounts myself and was given a pig skull from a friend of mine. I have been soaking it now for about 4 weeks and all of the meat has fallen off, or I have gotten it off but I’m not sure how to tell when the skull is completely de-greased. I have the skull soaking it water and dawn right now and the water no longer gets a visible layer of grease on the top but there are still some bubbles coming to the surface and there are still some mildly yellow spots on the skull around the eyes. I am just wondering how I would be able to definitively know when the skull is totally de-greased so I can go ahead and whiten it and finish it up. Please help, and thanks for your time.

OfflineIf using heates water and dawn you are looking at about 4 months to ensure all the grease is out ,if it isn’t you will have grease surface in time and have a yellow skull that is tacky to the touch ,hogs are tricky and need to be left in ,when you think it’s done leave it in longer, then allow it to dry of a couple days to see what shows up .this isn’t whitened yet but been degreasing for 6 months with some peroxide added for he past five days ,it’s drying now to see what turns up ,one thing I do is download the photo editor app and illuminate the photo and lower the contrast it will show you hard spots that need attention

Here is another hog ,I know it’s not done but took photo to show you ,when illuminated it makes the hard spots easy to see ,thick bone calls for extra time

Hope this helps you,the photo app is silly but does help to understand bone grease
