I’ve always used an 8ga wire with a small bend at the end, but the butter knife sounds like it might work better. I may have to make me one.

OfflineI made a brain tool , might be like the brain blaster (don’ know what the brain blaster is) I used a 1/8 in copper tubbing about 2 ft long reduced down from 3/4 garden hose with a valve on it. Insert the copper tube in the brain hole and turn on water, water will displace the brain pushing it out in about 5 sec in one piece usually . Cats love the brains, make sure you have the shull in a position that will hold it so that it won’t move when water pressure is applied.

Offlinethe butter knife is just CRACKING ME UP!!! bet it works well though, such hilljackness!! for larger animals, i twist a clothe hanger and start swirling when the brain gets cottage cheese consistency. and just take a water spicket and fill the cavity up with water, SHAKE vigorously, and tap it out, repeat until its gone. for smaller animals i use a crochet needle even tho this mouse skull i plan on doing in a few days ima need lock smith tools for that little heffer….. the brain is my favorite part, although i’m a little sinister with this sh**.
I like the butter knife…I have made myself several of these tools but I have used them in the garden for thinning and removing weeds from around small plants! Now my husband is thinking about making one for brain removal too….
Word of caution with using water or air in removal of brain matter from skulls…. some zoonotic diseases may survive beyond death of the animal and in some cases a fairly lengthy period. (example is rabies and even anthrax in ungulates) It would be wise to always wear eye protection when dealing with all species. Just a thought….
