We normally just use cold water and some relaxer for an hour or two . If it starts to look re hydrated, get it in the pickle .

It looks like there is more than just a dried skin. There is also so freezer burn (even though this was SUPPOSED to be a fresh kill)
The lips and eye lids are also hard to split. I put it back in the pickles yesterday and will look at again today to see what else I can do about this (unless someone has additional suggestions?).

I have a coyote skin that I purchased salted and air dried. What would you suggest as the best method of rehydration? Salt water solution? Pickling solution? I will be home tanning it. Thanks for any input.
