OfflineI found a deer hyde in my woods, looks like it was discarded along with the deer bones after someone took the meat. Looks to be a few months old. There is still fat and some meat on the underside of the hyde, and a bunch of maggots, leaves, and other debris stuck in it.
Is there any salvaging it so I could tan it? I’ve tanned deer hydes before, but it has been immediately after the deer was shot, not months later. It is pretty hard and smells pretty bad. Can I soak it in something to loosen it up so I can get the fat and meat off of it?
Thanks.
There is nothing you can do with that— you cannot tan it and get anything close to good results.
