I am planning on tanning for the first time with the HQ Tan 5000 (pickle required). My question is after I complete the brush on tan and let it set for the required length of time is it safe to was the skin afterwards with dawn and warm water? I guess what I am asking is if the tan will be affected or washed out and it will it weaken the effect of the brush on tan.

Also, how safe is it to ship this time of the year? I have about a half quart left and was going to order another gallon. If there is even a remote possibility that freezing will affect it performance I can wait and use one of the other tans I have in my shop.

Thanks!

Vic

Hi Vic

I can’t answer your question on using the 5000, but we have used some of the other tans from HQ and have been very happy.

I am sure Jeremy or D will jump in and answer your questions.

I have heard good things about the HQ tan. I used the original John Rinehart brush on and it was great…until they changed the formula that is. After doing a bit of research I decided to try the HQ brand. So we will see how it goes.

Vic,
Once the oil dries into the skin it is tanned leather. You then rehydrate it with warm salt water and degrease or dawn without any worry about the tan washing out.
