This is the second year I’ve been using HQ5000. It’s proved to be a reliable quality tan. Soft stretchy capes every time. Very low shrinkage . No problems with drumming . Good product .

hackleback, comparing the Hq5000 to the Tt581, in your opinion/experience does one stretch better then the other or shrink less then the other? Do you use Hq5000 on capes mostly? Appreciate your sharing your experiences.

I use both . I get stretch out of both . I use HQ5000 a lot because I buy it by the gallon . When I order TT581 for mammal’s ill continue using it for my deer also . It sets the hair good, shaves nice . I always get my measurements back . I use proper form size so my detail stays also . Ill use which ever one I have available .

Yes, it will work fine on Elk, if you shave them down properly you will get great stretch.

Yes . I’ve used it on everything . As D said get a nice thin shave and it will have plenty of stretch . I just did a beaver and bobcat rug . They tuned out nice .

Formic is best in my opinion. But between the two you named, definitely Citric is the way to go.

Have anyone used any of the Tru-Bond Tanning products. Curious on how they compare to Hq5000?

Nope never used them, haven’t had any problems with HQ5000…..I see no need try anything else.

I just put a longhorn together that I used hq5000 on and it turned out great. Besides the fact that you get awesome stretch, hq5000 holds the color of the hide very well making finish work a breeze.
