Yes I have been researching on my own an answer to this question. I am admitting I have never had to rehydrate one single hide since starting Taxidermy. I honestly do not know how (embarassed grin here:confused:) . How do I rehydrate a dry tanned bear hide for mounting ? Thank you for your help.

It is simply water with salt added.

I have a lifesize bear I need to rehydrate myself.  Would it be any better or worse to do the rehydrating process in a pickle and get two things done at the same time?  Good idea?  Bad idea?

I think you are asking about something completely different Vic, you are talking about soaking a salted skin correct? If so, do not try to re-hydrate in a pickle, make a separate bath for it, you will get much better results.

Thanks for the info Keith,

I have a salted bear that I need to work on so I will go the route of a separate salt bath first before pickling.

Use a good re-hydrator and just follow their instructions, don’t use a salt bath unless it’s very light salinity, high salt hinders the soaking process.
