The best soft tanner I have used is BuckTan Softening Oil. It’s really reasonably priced! Good luck!

The HQ5000 and Head Quarters Softening oil is a great combination for dry tanning wall hangers and deer hides and such…..you should give them a call.

The hq5000 is by far the best that I have found. I use it on everything in my shop which is mostly deer, sheep, bobcat, fox, buffalo, and cattle. I tan about 100 hides a season with perfect results. I would encourage you to degrease larger animals prior to your last pickle dip and then of course when you rehydrate your tanned skin.

Welcome to the forum !

The simplest way to put it is that the hide is tanned, but not wet  for mounting. While taxidermy dry tans will work for wall hangers, they will not last as long as other types of garment tans in the flexible , dry state. Most taxidermy dry tans should be reconstituted and mounted or froze within six months.
