OfflineI am looking for a possible taxidermy, skull/bones, wet specimen or insect collection donation for an upcoming exhibit at Science Museum Oklahoma.
The purpose of the exhibition is to inform the visiting public about the history of early collections and museum practices. In Europe, in the 17th century, art objects such as small paintings and sculpture would be displayed alongside natural history objects such as pressed plants, shells, minerals, and taxidermy animals.
As collecting practices and taxonomies evolved during the 18th century and the Enlightenment, these early collections were split up, eventually becoming something that resembled modern science and art museums. Modern museums are highly specialized places where art objects and scientific specimens are rarely, if ever, displayed together.
This exhibition seeks to recreate the wondrous space of the early collection, where unexpected tangential relationships between art objects and natural history specimens created a sense of wonder in the viewer. Wonder can be described as intellectual passion and is often the catalyst for further study.
Individuals loaning objects from personal collections would be offered the opportunity of cross promotion in the form of recognition on signage and other documentation.
Your donations would be considered a charitable contribution.
Thank You
